The University of St Andrews has opened its doors to over 200 bright minds hailing from diverse corners of the world. These students, embarking on a semester or year-long journey with us, play an important role in our University’s commitment to a learning culture that is challenging, imaginative, diverse, and international.

We proudly partner with institutions from all around the world, including the College of William & Mary, the University of Melbourne, Sciences Po, University of Bonn, to name but a few. For the first time again since the pandemic, we are delighted to welcome Creative Writing students from Johns Hopkins University to our campus. New partners whose students we welcome to St Andrews for the first time include the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. These collaborations exemplify our commitment to fostering global academic relationships and broadening horizons.

Agata from the University of Verona in Italy shares some thoughts about her experience studying abroad in St Andrews last year: “This academic experience has been the most precious one I had in my life up to now. I am very passionate about travelling and discovering new cultures and St. Andrews proved itself to be a wonderful international hub, filled with kind people from all over the world, both students and academic staff. The education I received helped me understand what I would like to pursue in my life, which involves marketing in an international multicultural field.”

Arden from the University of British Columbia has some recommendations for our visiting students from the time spent in St Andrews as an exchange student: “[You] should put effort toward joining societies and groups at St Andrews […] I joined a few societies, such as History, Law, and STAUCA. On the History Committee I earned the position of Treasurer, and worked with the committee throughout the year to balance their accounts. Working for the committee added responsibility to my life, and the social events hosted made me feel like a necessary part of the student groups I entered.”

Orientation Events

To kick off this academic year, we’ve put together a range of events for our international community as part of orientation week. These include opportunities for students to connect, a lively pub quiz, an adventurous scavenger hunt, and an academic culture session designed to prepare students for their academic journey with us. This session aims to introduce students to the unique aspects of our institution, helping them navigate the differences between our academic culture and their home institutions.

Reconnecting After a Challenging Period

Following the global challenges posed by the pandemic, the revival of student mobility across the globe fills us with immense joy. It’s a testament to the sector’s resilience and our shared passion for education that students and staff alike can now once again seize countless opportunities for international engagement, collaboration, and cross-cultural exploration.

As we embark on this exciting journey together, we look forward to the friendships forged, the knowledge exchanged, and the memories created. The University of St Andrews remains a beacon of global learning, ready to embrace the world, one student at a time. Welcome, once again, to our community in St Andrews! 🌎📚 #StAndrewsAbroad #GlobalLearning
