Welcoming our New Visiting, Study Abroad, and Exchange Students

The Global Office would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new visiting, study abroad, and exchange students!

We hope that you are all settling into the town and enjoying your first few days in St Andrews. This is a busy and exciting time as you explore a different place and meet new people. To help with the transition, we have put together a schedule of events going on this week and other useful information now that you have arrived. We hope to see you in person at some of the Global Office events this week and this should be a great way for you to get to know your fellow visiting, study abroad, and exchange students.

Orientation Events

Tuesday 5 September 2023, 4-5pm – Academic Culture Session for visiting students, Younger Hall
The teaching and learning styles at St Andrews may be very different from what you are used to at your home institution. Give yourself the best chance of settling into our academic culture quickly, and to prepare for a successful academic journey at St Andrews by attending this session. This event will take place in Younger Hall.

Wednesday 6 September 2023, 5-7pm – International Pub Quiz, The Rule
Join your fellow study abroad and exchange students in our legendary International Pub Quiz, hosted by members of staff from the Global Office. Don’t miss the chance to show off your knowledge of Scotland and the world whilst enjoying a local beer or a real Scottish ale on tap. This will take place at The Rule; a local pub located on South Street.

Thursday 7 September 2023, 1-3pm – Global Office Scavenger Hunt, starting from the Global Office
Join your fellow visiting, study abroad, and exchange students in our Scavenger Hunt, hosted by members of the Global Office. Don’t miss the chance to learn about some of St Andrews’ famous and unique landmarks whilst also making new friends from around the world. There will also be a surprise waiting in the Global Office at 3pm for anyone who wishes to join.

Orientation App
For further information on Orientation, your journey to St Andrews, and other essential next steps, the University has put together dedicated webpages with all the necessary details on the Orientation website. If you would like to stay informed of all the activities happening during Orientation, you can download the Orientation App from the website for a full schedule of events.
