The Global Office is delighted to announce that after a highly competitive selection process, seventeen international academics have been awarded fellowships through the University’s prestigious Global Fellowship Scheme. These leading scholars, based at institutions in Australia, Canada, Italy, Hong Kong, Nigeria, Uganda and the USA, will be hosted by schools across all faculties at St Andrews during the 2023-2024 academic year.

The Global Fellowship Scheme was first established in 2018 as a way to welcome academics from around the world to St Andrews for up to one month and offer them the opportunity to advance research, explore and deepen collaborative partnerships, engage with the wider University community, and find the space to think in an inspirational and historic corner of Europe.

The scheme has developed substantially since its pilot in 2018, and it now comprises of three distinct strands. The original Global Fellowship strand is an annual call that is open to all academics based at an institution based outside of the UK and who hold a PhD. Applicants are expected to be significant scholars or emerging leaders within their field. The Senior Global Fellowship strand, which accepts nominations directly from Academic Schools, is aimed at established world leaders in their field with an international reputation for research excellence and a considerable record of achievements, leadership and publications. Finally, the Global Fellowship (Education) strand, which also operates via an internal nomination process, welcomes leading practitioners and researchers in the field of education and pedagogy.

These awards provide Global Fellows with a stipend, self-catered accommodation, return flights, airport transfers and access to computing and library facilities. Travel and logistical support is provided by the Global Office. A full list of of 2023-2024 Global Fellowship awards can be found below.
