From St. Andrews to Tübingen: First Abroad’s fantastic food, culture and discovery
In January 2025, a small group of students were selected to travel to Tübingen, to spend the week experiencing studying abroad at one of our partner university’s. Warmly welcomed by the University of Tübingen, students were immersed in academic life, culture and learning about the benefits of studying abroad. Hear from Kerry as he draws on his experiences and highlights of the trip!
Early in January 2025, I was part of an incredible group of first year students selected from a variety of schools at St. Andrews University, to embark on an incredible one week of great experiences at Tübingen university. The first abroad program was a once in a lifetime opportunity sponsored by the Scottish education department, where I personally got to learn a lot as part of the incredible and small group of six students.
We spent the week exploring the beautiful ancient Tübingen university town with its incredible architecture and wonderful community. One of the things that was outstanding in the tour, was the incredible Tübingen staff who did everything possible to ensure we had a lovely experience of each and every part of the beautiful town.
We learnt everything from the town’s religious views to matters of immigration. All of this was meant to ensure we get the global minded perspective which is so much encouraged at university of St. Andrews as well. I also noticed that we shared many similarities with this incredible university, even their principal was a former lecturer at St Andrews university, for a moment I thought I was in St Andrews!
As a rugby player it was important I didn’t miss the food part of the trip, every day at meal times we got served some authentic German food, which turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the program! I had a lovely experience, writing this with a massive smile on my face and looking forward to a similar experience in the near future.

Thank you to Kerry for sharing his valuable insights and experiences studying abroad at the University of Tübingen!
