From St Andrews to the World: A look back at the Global Opportunities Festival that took October by storm
As we near the end of October, with raisin and reading week done and dusted, we look back at the global opportunities’ festival. It’s been a busy month here at the Global Office, having organised a multitude of events, October has been a whirlwind of global connections and boundless opportunity! Kicking off with the study abroad fair, with over 200 attendees and 50 volunteers, students gathered to explore international study options. From Australia to Canada to California, bespoke information sessions offered exclusive and unique insight into life beyond St Andrews! Thank to our fantastic organisers, guest speakers and the dedicated Global Office team we put on some fantastic events! Missed out? Here’s everything you need to know…
The festival kicked off with the Study Abroad Fair on the 9th of October, which saw over 200 students attend the event, eager to gain an insight into studying abroad and the application process! This event would not have been possible without the support of our student volunteers. Over 50 students, representing over 19 institutions who had previously studied or worked abroad joined us to chat with students about their experiences. From academics to accommodation, our student volunteers offered invaluable insights and handy top tips to students interested in the study abroad experience,

I would also like to extend a huge thank you to the organisers of the bespoke information sessions on behalf of the Global Office. On 15th, 17th and 21st October, the Global Office hosted three sessions to give students a greater insight into specific institutions. We were joined by Fan from Western University, Canada, Jayden from the University of Melbourne and Adrian, Adrienne and Ralitsa from the University of California. These exclusive sessions allowed students to hear directly from staff and students firsthand! For students looking to work abroad, the Careers Office led an additional event on 18th October. Attended by both undergraduates and postgraduates, this session proved valuable in demystifying working abroad! I would like to extend an enormous thank you to Amy from the Careers office for making this event possible!
After all the excitement throughout October, we can’t forget about the fantastic global education opportunities available to students! Think Pacific and Volunteer Zambia some great volunteering programs targeted at students and graduates. Think Pacific offers volunteer projects, internships and placements in Bali, the Fiji Islands and remote internships. Volunteer Zambia offers an international volunteering program that helps deliver sport to young people in Zambia’s poorest communities. Visit the links to find out more!
Once again thank you to our volunteers, partners and collaborators for helping us throughout this busy month! Stay tuned for more events from the Global Office.
